Project Spotlight: Cross Drain Replacement – State Road 17

Vasani Consulting provided specialty engineering support to ADEC Construction for the replacement of an existing cross drain along State Road 17 (SR 17) in Central Florida.

The original contract documents directed all traffic through local roadways during construction. However, field assessment revealed that large trailer trucks were unable to navigate the tight turning radii and narrow intersections along these local detour routes, creating a major constructability and safety concern.

To overcome this challenge, Vasani Consulting developed an alternative truck detour utilizing US 27 and State Road 60 (SR 60).

This new detour alignment provided safe and efficient access for heavy vehicles while maintaining local circulation and minimizing disruption to nearby communities. Our team prepared the required traffic control layouts, MOT revisions, and coordination exhibits in compliance with FDOT standards to support contractor operations and agency review.

This innovative approach allowed ADEC Construction to successfully complete the SR 17 cross drain replacement while maintaining continuous traffic flow and ensuring a safe work environment for both the public and construction personnel.
